Gelli Jump Start Journals

This year I made some gelli jump start journals inspired by Patti Tolley Parrish.  She made her debut in the November edition of Cloth, Paper, Scissors and kindly made a series of youtube videos to go along with it to show how they are made, so I had a go.  They have been given as Christmas presents this year.

I included a tag in with each one with an explanation on the back.

And this is how it read.

Each journal has 3 signatures and each signature has 5 double sided pages.

As you can see some pages have lots of colour.

Some pages have lots of white space.

The idea being that you use them as a journal, but aren't faced with a blank white page.

A bit of something to get you started.

You could either doodle in the whites space or

gesso over the page and add your own background.

The pages make great starting points.

I hand stamped some tissue paper to make my own Christmas paper to wrap the journals in.

A Quick Tag

Just needed to have a quick play. Sprayed a tag with magenta media mister, dried it and then spritzed on the white shimmer.

Emma had bought me a Dina Wakley stamp plate which the words are from and Lin R had sent me lots of fab pieces of fabric with images on, which I machine stitched onto the tag.

Christmas Candles

I've been playing with pillar/church candles, tissue paper and cellophane.

And this is the back.

Xmas Gift Tags

I was in Blogland this morning and this fab post from Helen appeared, which you can see here. The original post is over on the PA blog which you can see here.

As I've been under the weather with a head cold these last few days, something simple like this was great for me to get back into having a bit of a play. This morning the weather was gorgeous too, the sun was beaming through the windows, so I instantly felt better. Unfortunately by the time I got round to taking the photos, it had gone grey and dull and looked like rain.

I'm linking this post to the PA challenge blog.

Orange & Purple Combo

I set a tag swap for orange and purple colour combo, so here are mine.  They are just primary elements on the background, ginger peach and wild plum, with some stamping in black and purple stazon and hi-lights with a white posca pen.  And finally ribbon and fibres added to the top.

That's Crafty have a theme of 'all about face' and they would like to see a face on a project, so I am entering the middle tag for this challenge.

Playing with Felt, Fabrics and BondaWeb

Been playing with fabric bits today.  Base is a piece of purple acrylic felt and then chopped pieces of organza, bits of cotton scrim, other scraps of fabric, then a layer of bondaweb.

Left - throwsters waste and gilding flakes ironed over the top
Right - cotton scrim and gilding flakes ironed over the top

Then I took a piece of bright red organza and stitched it over the top. I used gold to stitch around the borders.

And unfortunately you can't see this one very well, but I used a silky orange thread and a lovely stitch to add a grid to this piece.

So I've shown you the back, so you can see what I've done and the fab stitch that I didn't even know I had!!

I did make them with the intention of burning and making marks on them, but I quite like them how they are, so might leave these as they are and make some more.

Unforgettable Memories

And this one, this way the tag I'd already pre-preped.

Well this is what it now looks like now with various colours of media paint and antiquing cream added.

Close up of the grunge paste circles.

Close up of the top of the tag.

Another wooden heart with grunge paste, painted black and cream antiquing cream.

And this is the finished tag.

Tag Along have a theme this week of stencil it.

Funky & Unique

Remember this?

Well it now looks like this!!

Close up of the top right corner after antiquing creams and paints have been added.

Top left hand corner.

Somewhere around the middle!

Left hand side towards the bottom, lots of quinacridone gold here.

Wooden heart with GP stencilled through. Painted black and antiquing creams applied and rubbed back.

Another wooden heart with all the same treatment as the one above but colours used in a different order.

Close up of the heart, rusty looking effect.

And the finished product.

All the photos have been auto corrected due to the darkness they were originally taken in because of the weather, it's rained nearly all day!!

Antiquing Cream Play

Embossed heart, painted black, painted with patina antiquing cream and rubbed back, quinacridone gold added over the top.

Embossed heart, painted with excess primary elements, painted with cream antiquing cream and rubbed back, quinacridone gold added over the top.

Embossed heart, painted black, painted with English red oxide antiquing cream and rubbed back.

And this is the same photo but I've auto corrected the colour as it's more true to the actual.

And this is exactly the same as above except I added quinacridone gold added over the top.

And this is it under the auto correct button.

This is one of the TH dragonfly emboss and die cuts that Emma cut for me. The tail has been heated to created bubble texture and the wings painted with patina antiquing cream, rubbed back and tinted with quinacridone gold.

From another angle. I placed a little cork under the body to lift it up.

A close up of the main part of the body and tail.

This tag was embossed with a couple of different folders, coloured with light grey paint, covered in black antiquing cream, rubbed back. A layer of PA satin glaze added to seal the black. Cream antiquing cream added over the top and rubbed back, another layer of PA satin glaze. Finally a very thin layer of quinacridone gold added over the top.

Same tag but just used the auto correct on it.

Then I laid the dragonfly over the top for contrast to show all the different colours.

And again, this is the same photo which has been auto corrected on the colours as it's so dark here today due to the constant rain.
