Magazine Page Collage

I've recently joined a FB group called 'Collage Obsessions' as I loved some of the collages that were being showcased. I'm not sure if there are any rules to follow, but I know I needed to have a go. So here is what I came up with, no rhyme or reason for it, just ended up like this because I liked it!

She has Hair!!

Remember my large fairy that I made a couple of months ago, you can see the process of how I made her here. And the reason she has no hair is because I was waiting to go to the knit and stitch show in Harrogate to find something to make her hair from.

All rectified now as I found just the thing, natural sheep fleece. I had a chat to the lady on the stall, trying to explain what I wanted it for, and my main concern was, would it hold it's shape once dipped in the Powertex. She assured me it would, so just to be on the safe side, I tried a single piece as you can see at the bottom of the photo, and I'm happy to say, it worked brilliantly.

This is the other side of her card just in case anyone is interested and also a reference for me should I need some more!

So I completely covered her in cling film so I didn't get any Powertex on her.

I painted the back of the head and hairline with bronze Powertex, dipped the fleece into the Powertex, added it to the head and started to style the hair.

Was really happy with how it turned out and the fleece takes the Powertex beautifully.

This is approx 20 hours later and it's now quite dry.

And from the front.

And the back. The one long piece down the middle was intentional.

And a front view but from the left side if that makes sense!

Her hair is now all coloured up with bronze gold Powertex pigment.

And the view from the back.

And a close up from the front.

And finally a view from the side.

And here she is in all her glory. Am really pleased with how she has turned out.

All Grunged Up

Stenciled DecoArt modeling paste and white crackle paste through a couple of stencils.

Once dry, painted with DecoArt tinting base.

Added layers of DecoArt media paint until I was happy with the colour blend. Hopefully you can see the crackle paste on the word live.

This one started off with a phthalo blue wash.

Edged in carbon black and stamped in black stazon.

All mediums are from the DecoArt range.

That's Crafty have a challenge of all grungy this week, so I'm entering with these pieces.

A Dressed Torso

Started off with a papier mache mini torso and painted it with black Powertex.

Covered a piece of t-shirt fabric in black Powertex and modeled it around the torso trying to create as may ruffles as possible.

Once completely dry I literally painted it with a mix of red Powertex pigment and DecoArt media satin varnish.

I didn't want to just hi-light the ruffles of texture, I actually wanted a red base over the black Powertex.

As you can see I managed to achieve quite a deep red.

Next I started to introduce the gold pigment and this time I did just want to hi-light the ruffles.

And from the back.

And the right side.

And the final piece which I'm really pleased with. Unfortunately due to the lack of light and 'sun' you don't get a true picture of how fab the pigments actually look.

Knit and Stitch Show Harrogate

Yesterday I took a lovely drive over to Harrogate, the weather was lovely compared to the heavy rain of the last few days. I visited the Knit & Stitch Show. I didn't take my camera with me, so no photos of the actual show, which this year was much better organised. These are my purchases. More or less got everything that I went for too.

Over on Mini Marvels FB group Chris started a weekly challenge of build a tag. Week 1's instruction was to choose a tag any size, any colour, any texture

Add one layer of gesso and

when dry, add one colour.

Week 2's instruction - Add a further paint colour to your tag and while it is still wet, draw or write into it with the end of a paintbrush or pencil.

Week 3's instruction - press modelling / grunge paste / gel paste through any stencil of your choice.

Week 4's instruction - Add some collage with matte / gloss medium, collage pauge or your preferred glue. Add a layer of matte medium over the top of the collage pieces.

Week 5's instruction - add a layer of translucent paint.

Week 6's instruction - Spray or drip a contrasting colour of paint or ink across / down your tag.

Week 7's instruction - Add more stencilled layers. (No idea why, but I don't have any photos of this stage, as this photo includes step 9.)

Week 8's instruction - use clear gesso to completely cover your tag.
I didn't carry out this step as I don't have any clear gesso.

Week 9's instruction - stamp one or more images across your tag.

Week 10's instruction - Cut our and adhere a main focal image to your tag. This can be drawn, stamped, collages, downloaded or cut from a book / magazine.

Oriental Surprise

Another play with alcohol inks. Blew the watermelon and pitch black inks around on the glossy card with a straw. Stamped the oriental images from PA onto white card and used the leftover pieces of acetate to cover them to add colour.

Another entry for the PaperArtsy challenge.

Tags

I took a sheet of acetate dripped drops of alcohol ink and blew it using a straw. I used sailboat, raspberry and sunshine. The blue dried really quickly, hence they didn't spread as well. The images are stamped directly onto the tag and I cut the acetate out to sit on the top. I used double sided tape to stick it down and also used an eyelet in the hole at the top to help secure it further.

Again I'm entering into the PaperArtsy challenge.

Postcards

I'd more or less forgotten what to do with these, I haven't used them for so long, but over on the PaperArtsy blog they have a new challenge of alcohol inks / pens, so I got mine out. I used raspberry, sailboat and citrus on glossy card and moved the ink using the Ranger distress ink spritzer. Using black stazon I stamped the TH images and once dry outlined parts of the images with a white sharpie pen.

Abstract

I randomly spread white Decoart media modelling paste onto an 8" x 8" square of chipboard. I took a couple of different sized lids and pressed them into the modelling paste and then left it to dry for a couple of days.

Once completely dry I added various layers of DecoArt media paint until I was happy with the result.  Then I used titan buff to hi-light the circles and washed them over some of the background.

Finally I cut them into 4 to create 4" x 4" squares and mixed them up. Not sure if I'm keeping them as 4 individual pieces or going to mount and frame them as a foursome.

All products used are from the DecoArt media range.
